2007-2008 Winter Calendar Update

I've added the 2007-2008 NorAm events, and North American events for Alaska and Washington. Look for more events to be added in the next week as I round up event postings from club sites. Many clubs have yet to aannounce Winter events.

US Event Cancelations

Many Eastern United States club events are being canceled due to warm weather and no snow. Please double check with the host clubs about events you are interested in.

2007 US Biathlon Club Championships

The Saratoga Biathlon Club will be hosting the first ever US Biathlon Club Championships this winter. Clubs will compete for points in men's and a women's relay and a sprint events. Each club can enter only one relay team, but in the sprint they can have as many competitors as they wish, although only the top 3 finishes for that club will count towards the club's point total.
The event will take place January19-21 2007. Encourage your club president to
send in an entry for your club.

Biathlon Canada has posted the dates for the 2006-2007 North American Cup events, Canadian Championships, US Championships and the North American Championships.

2014 Winter Olympic Candidate Cities Announced
Sochi Russia, Salzburg Austria and PyeongChang Korea have been announced as the three final candidate cities for the 2014 Winter Olympics by the International Olympic Committee. Applicants from Spain, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria and Georgia were not selected as candidate cities. The host city will be announced on July 7th 2007.

USA Biathlon Hires Two Team Coaches

USBA has hired Per Nilsson and Mikael Lofgren to coach the US National Team in the 2006-2007 World Cup season.

World's Longest Skitunnel Opens

A new skitunnel has opened in Torsby Sweeden. It contains two classic tracks, two skate tracks and a biathlon range. At 1287 meters long it is the longest skitunnel in the world.

Summer Biathlon Championships in Ufa Russia

The 2010 Vancouver Olympic Committee is seeking candidates for the position of Biathlon Manager.
"Oversee the planning and delivery of the Biathlon sports requirements for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and all required Test and Training events; coordinate the preparations and operations of the Olympic and Paralympic Biathlon shooting range and related activities; manage the Biathlon stadium, range and facilities during pre-Games operations. Titles may be adjusted from time to time to accurately reflect responsibilities."
